Sanur was once a sleepy fishing village but now has many good hotels, good shopping and wide variety of restaurants. The boardwalks along the beach stretches for severed kilometres with views of reef ,Lembongan and Nusa Penida Islands in the distances. Many colourful ceremonies take place and the sound of gamelan echoes to the streets of Sanur. Sanur has become but still maintains strong tradition. A true Bali spirit adn traditions still can be easily found. In other words, Sanur is the heart of Bali.

Nyepi Day : 5 March 2011
Nyepi Day si famously known as The Silence Day, is the Balinese New year Celebration. Nyepi Day means a day of 24-hour prohibition and restricted activities as no one is allowed to leave their resort or accommodations, nor go to the beach. All restaurants, stores, and businesses throughout the island are closed on Nyepi Day. Vacationers are asked to kindly respect this Balinese tradition and to cooperate by returning to their rooms in the early evening and by drawing their curtains tight so as not to let any light escape to attract wandering spirits.
Residents of Bali and the vistiors are required to remain in their homes or hotels and observe the basic laws of Nyepi Day: no driving, no working, no eating, no noise-making, no visible lights, and no entertainment or love-making. even the airport will be closed for 24 hours except for emergency situation. The hospital will be remains open for 24 hours.
Two days before the Nyepi Day, Balinese Hinduism will held processions of Melasti, which is thousands of the Balinese will fullfill the streets toward to the beaches. You can feel the majestic atmosphere of Bali on this Melasti Day. And the day after , will be known as Pengerupukan Day or the the new year eve, the Ogoh -Ogoh (giant demons dolls) parade will be held on this evening along the streets of Denpasar, Sanur, Kuta and Ubud with traditinal music or gamelan and dances.
